The Homepage Is a Handshake

Your homepage usually has only a few seconds to do its job. A visitor arrives with three quiet questions: who are you, what do you do, and why does it matter to me? If the answers are not obvious immediately, they leave. Think of the homepage as a handshake: brief, confident, and clear.

Answer the three questions

Put your most important idea in the headline, and make sure it explains the value rather than just naming the company. Follow it with a short line about what you do and who you help. Then give the visitor one clear next step. Everything above the fold should work together to make the offer unmistakable.

One page, one job

A homepage cannot say everything, and it should not try. Its job is to orient the visitor and point them in the right direction. Keep the focus on a single primary action, and let supporting pages carry the detail. When the handshake is strong, the rest of the conversation follows naturally.
